Hello San Leandro! I'm Eva Arce (pronounced A-va R-say) and I would be honored to have your vote this November for City Council. I'm not a politician. I'm a hard working neighbor like you. I'm currently working as a Systems Security Consultant for Alameda County while working on my Masters Degree in IT Business Management. My experience involves working in both corporate law and medical firms. I've spent the last twenty years of my career in technology and management, focused on security and virtualization.
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York to a single mother. My mom worked for the Administration for Children's Services in the City of New York for 30 years, which allowed her to retire at a reasonable age. If it weren't for SSEU Local 371, I wouldn't have had access to the healthcare a growing, rambunctious child needs.
Growing up, I wanted to be a classical musician. I not only attended to school, but also attended ballet classes, piano and voice lessons, and even performed in local community theater. I've had some amazing experiences both on stage and off, while working as a stage manager when not cast in on stage roles. Thanks to the New York City Summer Youth Program, my first paying job was the Center for Family Life's "Life Lines" program, a public theater camp were we used improvisational acting to teach kids life lessons on honesty, self esteem, and how to deal with racism and violence in the community.
I still perform and currently do so with the Oakland Symphony Chorus. I also sit on the Oakland Symphony Chorus Committee where I focus on marketing and social events. In addition to the Symphony, on occasion when time permits, I volunteer with the East Bay SPCA and Bull Terrier Rescue.
I moved to San Francisco in 2007 for a better quality of life and to get away from New York winters. I met the love of my life in 2010 and in 2012 moved to San Leandro. We each have a cat, Mariposa and Beto.
I'm running because I think San Leandro should be the best place to live in the Bay Area. Rising pension costs, fiscal mismangement, climate change, lack of rent control and the housing crisis are all issues that concern me. I know how it feels to come home late from a long day at work, and BART delays, to find that book you were dying to read or your nephew's Christmas present was stolen from your front door.
As your Councilmember, I will dedicate myself to working on solutions to improve the quality of all our lives, and secure San Leandro's future for generations to come.
